Dental impressions are critical in fixed prosthodontics as they transfer anatomical details from the clinic to the laboratory. However, they are frequently contaminated with saliva, blood, and microorganisms, posing risks of cross-infection between patients, dentists, assistants, and laboratory technicians. Rinsing impressions with water alone is insufficient, and effective disinfection protocols are required before transfer. This study evaluates the disinfection practices of dental impressions and fixed prostheses in Tripoli City through a descriptive cross-sectional survey of dentists and dental technicians. The objectives include assessing knowledge of infection control, identifying commonly used disinfectants and methods, evaluating compliance with recommended concentrations and contact times, examining communication between clinics and laboratories, and comparing practices between professional groups. Previous studies highlight inadequate awareness and inconsistent disinfection procedures across different countries, emphasizing the need for standardized protocols. The findings of this study are expected to identify unsafe practices, improve communication, and support professional training, thereby contributing to safer infection-control measures in dental clinics and laboratories.
